About the Event
Women of Panama features 15 original paintings by U.S./Panamanian artist Al Sprague. This collection consists of Panamanian women as flower, lottery, and market vendors as well as dressed in montunas and polleras. Fifty percent (50%) of all sales will be donated Fundacion Calicanto in support of their CAPTA program.
Since 2005, Fundacion Calicanto has provided support and skills to vulnerable women living in poor urban communities in Panama City, Panama. The vast majority of these women live below the poverty line and have low levels of education. Many are also single mothers who have been victims of domestic violence. Through the CAPTA program, Fundacion Calicanto aims to empower these women and improve their self esteem whilst also phroidfing education and developing practical skills. The first part of the program lasts five weeks with thirty modules covering topics such as emotional intelligence, commuication, self esteem, health, personal finances, English, employment law, and women's rights amoung other topics. After this there are two additional weeks of vocational training to prepare te women for employment in the hotel industry. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Fundacion Calicanto redesigned te entire course (including much of the vocational training) and has been delivering it online.
Sprague Art is delighted to partner with Fundacion Calicanto for Women of Panama. Proceeds from all sales of originals and giclees sold during the exhibit will be donated to Fundacion Calicanto in support of the CAPTA program.
